Welcome to the Weavers’ Guild of St. Louis

The Weavers’ Guild of St. Louis, the second oldest fiber guild in the United States, is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization of contemporary textile artists. Meetings are held in most months from August through May. Continuing a tradition begun with its founding in 1926, the Weavers' Guild of St. Louis supports fiber enthusiasts, fiber artists, and weavers of all experience and skill levels in developing and expanding their art and craft through programs, workshops, exhibitions, and the sharing of ideas and information.

The Weavers’ Guild of St. Louis celebrates the talents and contributions offered by each of its members, and as such, is committed to fostering a welcoming and respectful climate for all Guild member interactions.

Hex Weave and Beyond: Creativity in Cane Basketry

with Barbara Shapiro
November 15 -17

2 1/2-day workshop (Sat-Sun-Mon)

Brentwood Community Center

Description: Explore a flexible, sturdy, open weave technique in colorful cane. Class projects include a simple single-weaver hex form to learn the technique and, on day two, a flat bottom traditional basket. Day three will stretch your imagination as you take one of these forms in a personal direction by starting a creative sculptural object of your own design embellished with random weave technique or paper skin or additional objects you bring. More advanced students may choose to learn the Japanese flower knot technique on a hex base by including a row of flower knots in the form.

Note: Registration deadline is September 30th for the Hex Weave and Beyond workshop.
